Terms of Use

1. These terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Talestride (“we”, “us”) for using the Talestride app and talestride.com. By using the app, you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data. If you got the app through Apple TestFlight or Google, their terms for testing and app distribution apply too.

You must be at least 18 to use Talestride. If you don't agree to these terms, please don't use it.

2. A pre-release beta

Talestride is in development and offered only as a private beta. Features may change, be paused or be removed, and the app may have bugs, slowdowns or outages. We try to keep your reading and saved words safe, but during the beta we can't promise that nothing will be lost. We may end the beta at any time; when we can, we'll tell you first so you can export your data.

3. Your account

You sign in with a code sent to your email. Keep access to your email secure, because anyone who can read it can sign in as you. One account is for one person. Tell us if you think someone else is using your account.

4. Acceptable use

When you use Talestride, don't:

• break the law, or use it to create or ask for content that is illegal;
• ask it for sexual content involving minors, content that promotes self-harm, or content that harasses, threatens or demeans real people;
• put other people's personal or sensitive information, or your own, into story requests;
• try to reach another person's account or data, or get around sign-in, permissions, usage limits or other protections;
• overload, probe or attack our services, or use bots or scripts to sign up, make requests or copy content;
• copy, resell or republish Talestride's stories, audio or app, or reverse engineer the app except where the law allows it;
• use content you don't have the right to use, or present AI-written text as something it isn't in a way that misleads people.

If something in a story looks wrong or inappropriate, use “Report this passage” in the app or email us.

5. Your content

“Your content” is what you put into Talestride, such as story topics, places and directions, and the stories written for you from them. It stays yours. We don't claim ownership of it.

So that we can run the app, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, process and display your content, and to send it to the providers listed in our Privacy Policy (for example, to write the next chapter or to narrate it), only for providing Talestride to you. We don't use it to advertise or to train AI models, and we don't share it publicly. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies that remain for a limited time in backups.

You're responsible for what you ask Talestride to write. You may use stories written for you for your own personal, non-commercial purposes. Because AI can produce similar text for different people, we can't promise a story is unique.

6. Our content

The app, its design, the ready-made stories, word help and narration belong to Talestride or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use them in the app for your own learning. These terms don't give you any other rights to them.

7. AI output can be wrong

Stories you make, word explanations, translations and narration are produced with AI. They can be inaccurate, unnatural, incomplete or occasionally inappropriate, and a narrator may mispronounce words. Treat them as reading practice, not as authoritative language teaching, translation or advice of any kind. AI features only work after you allow AI processing, and you can turn it off at any time in You → Account & data.

8. Subscriptions

Talestride is free during the beta. Subscriptions are not offered yet, and the app takes no payments. If we offer them later, we'll show the price and terms before you buy, payment will go through Apple or Google, and we'll update these terms first. Usage limits on AI features and narration may apply during the beta.

9. No warranty

Talestride is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we make no promises about it, including that it will be available, error-free, secure, accurate or suitable for a particular purpose, or that it will help you learn a language to a particular level.

10. Limits on liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost data, lost profits or lost opportunities, arising from your use of Talestride. Because the beta is free, our total liability to you for any claim about it is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (currently nothing) and US$50.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't allow to be limited, such as for fraud, gross negligence or death or personal injury caused by negligence, or takes away rights you have as a consumer under the laws of the country where you live.

11. Ending your use

You can stop using Talestride at any time, and delete your account in You → Account & data. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts other people or the service at risk, and we'll tell you why unless the law or safety prevents it. If the beta ends or we close your account for a reason other than a breach, we'll try to give you time to export your data first. Sections 5 to 7, 9 and 10 continue after your use ends.

12. Changes

We may update these terms as Talestride develops. We'll post the new version here with a new effective date, and for significant changes we'll tell you in the app before they take effect. If you keep using Talestride after that, the new terms apply. If you don't agree, you can stop and delete your account.
